GUPTGANGA BHADERWAH (J&K) ---A Religious Heritage!

From the era of Pandavas,A beautiful anicent temple of Lord Shiva is situated on the bank of river Neeru of Bhaderwah. This temple is one of the historical religious heritage of Jammu & Kashmir.

There are certain archeological proofs which refers this temple was made during the Agyatavas of pandva brothers. An anicent Shivalingam is there which was placed by them.

A foot print of Mahabali Bheemsena with anicent archeological manuscript is available on a giant rock in the cave and a small idol of Bhimasena is there under the rock.

It is believed that Arjuna the third brother of pandavas had called Holy Ganga there for worship and presence of which we still can see in the form of a small waterflow in the cave ,this water is collected in a small rock kund mainly used for jal arapanam on the shivalingams there.

There is also a cave made by Pandavas, other end (exit)of which is believed to open in Muttan (a place in Kashmir).

Lifesaving of this temple was done by HH Raja Amar Singh Ji of Jammu & Kashmir during The Dogra Rule. He established a Shivalingam in the centre of the Temple Complex with his hands himself which was brought from river Narmada of Gujrat. This Shivaligam is also known as Narmadeshwar ji Maharaj!

HH Raja Amar Singh ji of J&K renovated the place ,made an Ashram for Sadhus and Dharamshala for visitors and then the charge of worship and other rituals were given to Baba Ganga Dass ji who served and worshiped the temple till his last breath. His samadhi is also there along with ashram.

The reason for which this place is called Guptganga is that it was established by pandavas during their agyatvasa in which they were supposed to live a Gupt Jeevan(secret life)for a complete year and it is believed that Maa Ganga had promised Pandavas that she will not reveal their Identity & location.

J&K Dharmarth Trust created by Maharaja Gulab Singh, the Founder of J&K in 1846 is the caretaker of this holy place. Tourists and pilgrims visit this place for the peace of mind from the different places of the world.
