Maharani Yasho Rajya Lakshmi

The sad and sudden demise of Maharani Yasho Rajya Lakshmi wife of Padam Vibhushan Maharaja Dr. Karan Singh on May 24, 2009 was his inspiring soul behind his outstanding achievements. Born in Kathmandu-Nepal, Maharani was the grand daughter of the last Rana and daughter of General Sharda Jang Bahadur Shamsher Singh. Princess Yasho Rajya Lakshmi was married to 18-year young Yuvraj Karan Singh of Dogra dynasty of Jammu and Kashmir State at the age of 13 years. She was born in Kathmandu on January 9, 1937.

She was president of the Delhi Society for the Welfare of Mentally Retarded children. She rehabilitated numerous handicapped children on various vocational works. She was also President Ladies Club Jammu and Chairperson of Maharaja Ghulab Singh Charitable Trust and a Trustee of Hari-Tara Charitable Trust.

J & K Dharmarth Trust Council has made a little effort to remember this great Maharani of the Jammu and Kashmir State by bringing out a special supplement on her sad demise.

News of Maharani's demise came as a personal shock to one and all because for full six decades she affectionately dominated J & K scene in a wonderful manner with her unique personality, natural charms, impressive presence and perfection even during Independence. Entire Jammu region always honoured and welcomed her dignity as the dignified Maharani throughout. Till her last breath, Maharani remained fully attached with all the sentiments, feelings and aspirations of hoary Duggar land. She was a natural reflection of Dogra culture and civilization in a most mysterious manner. It seemed that Nature had infused each and every best aspect of 'an all-time-hit' Duggar queen in Yasho Rajya Lakshmi's unforgettable image.
