The sad and sudden demise of Maharani Yasho Rajya Lakshmi wife of Padam Vibhushan Maharaja Dr. Karan Singh on May 24, 2009 was his inspiring soul behind his outstanding achievements. Born in Kathmandu-Nepal, Maharani was the grand daughter of the last Rana and daughter of General Sharda Jang Bahadur Shamsher Singh. Princess Yasho Rajya Lakshmi was married to 18-year young Yuvraj Karan Singh of Dogra dynasty of Jammu and Kashmir State at the age of 13 years. She was born in Kathmandu on January 9, 1937.

She was president of the Delhi Society for the Welfare of Mentally Retarded children. She rehabilitated numerous handicapped children on various vocational works.
